METZELER ROADTEC™ 01 elected best Sport Touring Tyre from Motorcyle News for the second consecutive year
After winning the tyre comparison test and being awarded “Tyre of the Year" by the UK publication in 2016 (in its debut year), the ROADTEC™ 01 is again confirmed as the reference tyre in its segment
Munich (Germany), 8 June 2017 – Beating the competition including more recently introduced tyres, METZELER ROADTEC™ 01 has been confirmed as the best Sport Touring tyre by the authoritative UK title Motorcycle News, as the winner of the MCN 2017 Sport Touring tyre comparative test.
The comparative test, to which the publication devoted a detailed and extensive article in the issue released on Wednesday, June 7 2017, was independently organized by MCN at the Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in Leicester. It was run under dry, overcast conditions and an average temperature of 14 degrees. The editorial team specified that although the test was carried out on a closed circuit, the surface closely replicated that of roads that a biker can ride on a daily basis.
The test was carried out using a 2017 Yamaha Tracer 700 ABS ridden by Bruce Dunn, a MCN Performance Tester with over 26 years of road testing experience, and equipped with 120/70 ZR 17 front and 180/55 ZR 17 rear tyres.
This is the ranking drawn up by MCN with its final score:

3) CONTINENTAL ROAD ATTACK 3 (19/20)
4) AVON SPIRIT ST (18.5/20)
5) DUNLOP ROADSMART III (17/20)
6) BRIDGESTONE T30 EVO (16/20)
7) MICHELIN PILOT ROAD 4 (15/20)
8) MAXXIS SUPERMAXX ST (13/20)
Each set of tyres was evaluated based on four criteria:
1) Comfort
2) Front-end feel / agility
3) Rear-end feel
4) Stability
Each of these four values was assigned a score from 1 to 5, giving a total of 20 points attributable to each tyre set.
The METZELER ROADTEC™ 01 not only won the comparative test but achieved the highest score in each of the four tests, giving the maximum score, 20 out of 20.
Regarding METZELER ROADTEC™ 01 reviews, MCN defines the comfort as "outstanding", stating that these tyres make the Tracer feel “as though it’s just had £3000 worth of suspension upgrades”. “The front tyre transmits a great feeling under all conditions and above all offers a very high sporting potential which allows you to go deeper into corners than you would expect a sports-touring tyre to let you go.”
As for the rear tyre, the testers admired the excellent grip level that “you just don’t give grip a second thought, because it’s there in abundance. Very confidence inspiring”.
Lastly, with regard to the last criteria, that of stability, Bruce Dunn declares they “give superior stability in all situations and speed ranges.”
At the conclusion of the test, the UK publication emphasizes how the METZELER ROADTEC™ 01 have managed to keep the mantle of the best Sport Touring tyres “thanks to their all-round ability to dramatically transform a bike’s handling performance and ride quality”.
