Pirelli seal Sixty-seventh Motocross World Title at Uddevalla for the Grand Prix of Sweden

Tim Gajser returns to victory in MXGP while Jeremy Seewer wins in MX2. Antonio Cairoli increases his lead in the MXGP standings as Pauls Jonass keeps command in MX2

Uddevalla (Sweden), 21 August 2017 – The sixteenth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship was run at Uddevalla. The Swedish terrain was hard and slippery due to frequent thunderstorms and rain that fell during the weekend. SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft was used by all Pirelli riders in the conditions; tyres forged by the Italian brand that demonstrated their versatility and helped achieve overall victory in both classes.

In MXGP the win belonged to Tim Gajser. The world champion claimed the first race and finished as runner-up in the second. A great second position was celebrated by Romain Febvre, who, after a tough comeback in the first race due to a crash, won the second outing. Gautier Paulin showed more of his recent good form to reach third place. Glenn Coldenhoff was fifth, and Jeremy Van Horebeek in sixth, just ahead of Antonio Cairoli who, thanks to Jeffrey Herlings' mechanical problem in the second moto increased his advantage to 101 points over the Dutch rider and in the next race could become world champion for the ninth time with two GPs still to run.

A Sixty-seventh Title for Pirelli in the FIM Motocross World Championship was mathematically claimed in the MX2 division, and now only Jonass and Seewer can win it. Jeremy Seewer achieved overall victory with two runner-up positions in the motos. The Swiss rider managed to cut a few more points away from Pauls Jonass’ lead as the MX2 title fight looks set to drop to the final round. Serial holeshotter Jorge Prado, winner of Race 1, walked the second step of the podium. Third was filled by Jonass who, on an extremely technical track, preferred to defend his championship margin without taking any risks. Conrad Mewse was fourth (a personal best) ahead of team-mate Thomas Covington. The American won the second moto with an exciting comeback.

In two weeks time the riders will tackle the US Grand Prix which will be held on the WW Motocross Park in Jacksonville, Florida.
