The Centre for Contemporary Culture Strozzina in Florence hosts the exhibition 'Anche le sculture muoiono'

Press release available only in Italian

From 17 April to 26 July 2015 the spaces of the Centre for Contemporary Culture Strozzina host the exhibition Anche le sculture muoiono (Also sculptures die), curated by Lorenzo Benedetti, presenting a reflection on
meaning, the possibilities and the new experiments of contemporary sculpture through the works and new productions of thirteen Italian and international artists: Francesco Arena (Italy), Nina Beier (Denmark), Katinka Bock (Germany), Giorgio Andreotta Calo (Italy), Dario D'Aronco (Italy), N.Dash (USA), Michael Dean (UK), Oliver Laric (Austria), Mark Manders (Netherlands), Michael E. Smith (USA), Fernando Sánchez Castillo (Spain), Francisco Tropa (Portugal), Oscar Tuazon (USA).
Contemporary artists use new forms and materials by investing on a broader temporal condition, in a dialogue between past and future. At the same time, however, the exhibition reflects on how today's artists rediscover materials such as bronze, stone or ceramic, which seemed to be relegated to the purely academic. These materials are recovered and used in conceptual form to reflect on the issues such as the monument, the fragment, the consumption of the raw material or the recovery from the recent modernist past.
