Hakan Matson the President of the Car of the Year Jury met last week the organisers of the #genevainternationalmotorshow who will again prepare the election of the Car of the Year 2017. The final vote plus the awarding of the prize will take place for the sixth time within the framework of the Motor Show. Seven finalists have already been decided. The ceremony will be reserved for accredited journalists but can be followed by the general public online at the sites www.gims.swiss and www.caroftheyear.org on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 3 p.m.

The Car of the Year trophy is highly prized by the automobile manufacturers, and, since 1964, has been the oldest and most prestigious award of its kind in Europe.

Following the selection of the candidates (29 models) and a week of testing at Tannitest in Denmark in October 2016, followed by numerous individual tests, the jury nominated the seven finalists below on November 18, 2016:

  • Alfa Romeo Giulia
  • Citroën C3
  • Mercedes E-Class
  • Nissan Micra
  • Peugeot 3008
  • Toyota C-HR
  • Volvo S90/V90

These finalists will undergo a final series of rigorous tests on 20 and 21 February, 2017 at the Automobile Research and Testing Centre at Mortefontaine (France).

Hakan Matson, President of the Jury and #automotive journalist of the Swedish daily economic publication Dagans Industri, visited Palexpo last week to discuss the 2017 election. At this time the management of the Motor Show presented the improvements put into place for this year to improve the photography and video opportunities for the media representatives at the ceremony.

Finally, the members of the Jury will award 25 points, spread over at least five of the seven models, under the ultimate scrutiny that will take place at Palexpo on:

In Meeting Room C at the Congress Centre in Palexpo

This #event is reserved for media representatives accredited by the #genevainternationalmotorshow plus the exhibitors at the Show. The Live broadcast on the websites of the Motor Show (www.gims.swiss ) and the Car of the Year (www.caroftheyear.org ) will enable the general public to follow the proceedings and to learn who the winner is in real time, at the same time as the official announcement.

Hakan Matson, President of the Jury, explained last year at the hand-over of the award to Karl-Thomas Neumann, Managing Director of Opel for the Opel/Vauxhaul Astra model, "The institution Car of the Year is different from other such awards. We are totally transparent with our voting. The sponsors of the Car of the Year have no relationships with the automobile industry. On the other hand, Car of the Year is organized by seven of the largest #automotive magazines in Europe: #auto Italia, Autocar (UK), Autopista (Spain), Autovisie (Holland), L'Automobile (France), Stern (Germany), and Vi Bilägare (Sweden). They include the 58 best journalists in the European the world who elect the winner. Since we come from 22 countries, we are capable of making commentaries in nearly all of the languages."
